Appointment of Atta-ul-Haq has been declared illegal

The Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar supervised a three-judge bench, who overheard a case regarding Qasmi’s selection as managing director along with the salary and perks he established both as chairman and MD of the state-run TV. The court had kept its decision on the case in July this year.

Declaring its judgment today, Justice Umar Atta Bandial read out a 48-page verdict by the chief justice and stated, “Qasmi’s appointment was against rules and regulations.”

The verdict was, “Then information and finance ministers, Pervaiz Rashid and Ishaq Dar, as well as former principal secretary to the prime minister are responsible for the illegal appointment,”

According to the judgment, more than Rs190 million was spent in the pays and bonuses granted to Qasmi. The bench announced that the money spent on the former MD and chairman of PTV must be refunded by the ones who were a part of his illegitimate employment. It stated, “Qasmi will pay 50% of the amount, while the former ministers will pay 20% each and the former principal secretary to the premier will have to submit 10% of the Rs190.78 million.”

The decision indicated, “Qasmi’s attitude was unacceptable and he should not be appointed on any such post in the future,”

Qasmi is a renowned writer who was selected as the chairman of PTV in 2015 but in April 2017, designated himself as the MD.The court was educated by the additional attorney general and information secretary about the amount Qasmi had reportedly received Rs278 million as income in the duration of his two-year spell at the TV channel. Qasmi had refused of any illegal activity.
