• The Lahore High Court annulled the nomination papers prepared by the Parliament for contesting the forthcoming elections, on Friday.
The directives were issued by LHC judge Justice Ayesha A Malik on the constitutional petition filed by legal expert Saad Rasool on behalf of journalist Habib Akram, who had challenged the Section 60, 110 and 137 of the Election Act 2017.
• The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday overturned an April Islamabad High Court (IHC) verdict disqualifying former foreign minister Khawaja Asif from holding public office for life.
• Hours after the opposition in the Punjab Assembly nominated columnist Orya Maqbool Jan, among two others, for the post of caretaker chief minister of the province, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) denied the reports and said Jan’s name was not forwarded by the party.
• PTI Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry said that,“The PTI never gave Jan’s name, and [Mian Mehmoodur] Rasheed forwarded his name on his own accord.�
