Pakistan’s Presidential election to be held tomorrow

News by:

Aliya Nazki in BBC Urdu “Sairbeen” covered these topics: Presidential election will be held tomorrow to elect 13th President of Pakistan for next five years. Arif Alvi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Aitzaz Ahsan of Pakistan Peoples Party and PML (N) backed Maulana Fazlur Rehman are vying for the seat. Polling will begin at ten am and continue till four pm. The presidential election is set to take place tomorrow however; the opposition is still divided over their candidate. Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has fielded Aitzaz Ahsan for the top slot while the other opposition parties have nominated Maulana Fazlur Rehman. None of them are willing to withdraw their candidate in favour of the other which has further widened the cracks in the alliance of opposition parties. More than 1,500 people have died so far in 2018 trying to reach Europe by crossing the Mediterranean, the UN International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has said, adding that this is the fifth consecutive year that the grim benchmark has been reached. A court in Myanmar has sentenced two Reuters journalists to seven years in prison. It says they violated a state secrets act while investigating violence against the Rohingya minority. But the journalists and Reuters deny the charges and say they were framed.
