With the Pakistani film industry churning out a decent number of films for a “start-up”, it is exciting to see what Lollywood has in store for us in 2019. Here is a list of Pakistani films in 2019 that are sure to please every type of cinephile.

  1. Durj

Based on true events in Pakistan, Durj follows the story of a woman who is looking for her husband. The search takes her down a dark path of violence, death and loyalties to men masquerading as powerful gods. Directed by Shamoon Abbasi and a much altered Sherry Shah, who gained 40 pounds and shaved her head for the role. This is one for your watch-list!

2. Karachi se Lahore 3

Pakistani films in 2019 have proven that we are also ready for sequels and triquels. The KSL gang returns for a third time and we can bet they will be up to some new shenanigans. There will be mauj, masti and Ayesha Omar shimmying and sashaying and lots of odes to both cities, depending on where you are from.

3. The Legend of Maula Jutt

Fan favorites Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan return for the much awaited Lengend of Maula Jutt which is looking to be an epic gandasa ride of grand proportions. The trailer was released on Dec 21, 2018 and had movie buffs, old and new, very excited for this Bilal Lashari-directed blockbuster.

4. Laal Kabootar

Just like most odes to cities (Namaloom Afraad, Cake), Laal Kabootar is also looking to show Karachi in a different light. Mansha Pasha and Ahmed Ali Akbar are shown getting into trouble in various fast moving clips and you also glimpse indie movie darling, Ali Kazmi in one of these flashes. The policeman licking his kulfi is our personal favorite, though.

5.  Baaji

What Pakistani movie list is complete without the return of Meera? Pakistani cinema is getting a proper dose of Meera jee and we cannot wait. According to a press release, “the film is a social drama-cum-thriller set against the backdrop of a fading Lollywood and the emerging new order of the Pakistan film industry.”

So these are the Pakistan film in 2019 that we are looking forward to. What are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments!
