In holdover news that isn’t The Predator, A Simple Favor parlayed good reviews and strong buzz into a decent hold. The Anna Kendrick/Blake Lively thriller earned $10.4 million (-35%) over its second weekend That gives the $20m Paul Feig-directed thriller a solid $32.562m ten-day cume. That’s a better second-weekend hold than (offhand) The Other Woman, The Shallows, Ocean’s 8, Girls Trip and Trainwreck. The word is clearly spreading about what a fun and all-too-rare flick this Hitchcockian pulp fiction happens to be. At a glance, this very enjoyable concoction may earn around $60m domestic by the end. That would be a big win for all parties.
