26 years since the martyrdom of Babri mosque in India

AYODHYA- 6th December marks the 26th annivarsary of the attack on Babri Mosque in Ayodhya by Hindu extremists.

Babri Masjid located in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh was attacked and martyred today 26 years ago. The incident is one of the biggest act of vandalism in the Indian history which instigated a lot of riots all across India.

The mosque was almost 450 years old and was built in the reign of Mughal Emperor Babar in 1528. Hindu fundamentalists and extremists claim that the mosque was built on the same place where the birthplace of Lord Rama is.

The tensions were going on for quite some time but on 6th December 1992, an angry mob of Hindu extremists attacked and demolished the mosque.

The incident provoked muslims all across the world. Protests were done in all the major cities of India. Riots also followed the incident which claimed the lives of thousand of people.

The most brutal riots were in Bombay (now Mumbai.) Shiv Sena supremo Bala Sahab Thackey is said to be the man behind these riots.

The muslim community in India filed a case in the supreme court which is still under hearing. Almost 30 crore muslims in India are waiting for justice even after twenty six years later.
