Court grants three-day exemption to Nawaz Sharif in Al-Azizia case

Lahore High Court (IHC) on Monday has summoned Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif in treason case on October 8.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Mazahar Ali Naqvi heard the petition against former prime ministers Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Nawaz Sharif and journalist Cyril Almeida.

An accountability court granted on Monday a three-day exemption to Nawaz Sharif in the Al-Azizia reference case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Accountability court Judge Mohammad Arshad Malik heard the Al-Azizia reference case. During the hearing, Nawaz’s counsel Khawaja Haris filed an application requesting the judge to grant his client five-day exemption. In his application, the counsel said that Nawaz was still in grief after the demise of his wife Kulsoom Nawaz, local media reported.

The application sought exemption as Nawaz needed time to recover. The counsel assured the court that there will be no hindrance in the court proceedings as Advocate Ibrahim Haroon will appear as Nawaz representative. The court accepted the request and granted three-day exemption to Nawaz.
