5 Exercises to Tone your Upper Body

With winter being right around the corner, you won’t be able to show off your arms and shoulders in the up-coming months. But that doesn’t mean you can take advantage of this and curl up on your couch the entire winter season. If you continue to workout to achieve a leaner and sexy upper body, you will be thankful to yourself when summer arrives. After all, your summer body is made in the winters. Check out these super easy exercises you can try at home to get a more toned upper body.

  1. Shoulder Press

Works: Upper back, shoulders and biceps

To perform this exercise, you need a pair of dumbbells. If you are beginner, you must start with the lightest weight, to avoid any muscle damage. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and make sure you’re standing with your feet shoulder-width apart. At the same time, also make sure your knees are bent a little. Carry the dumbbells just above your shoulders, both palms turned towards each other. Push the dumbbells up in a position where your arms are straight over your head. Stay in this position for 1 second, then gradually bring your arms down.

Reps: Do 6-8 reps of this exercise

2. Overhead Tricep Extension

Works: Triceps, Shoulders, Chest, Back

Hold a weight with both of your hands and carry it behind your head. While keeping your elbows still, extend your forearms over your head. Now bend both of your arms, bringing the dumbbell behind your head again.  Increase the weight if it seems too easy.

Reps: 8-10

3. Arm Circles

Works: Biceps, Triceps, Shoulders

You can perform this exercise with or without a dumbbell. Stand with your feet shoulder width-apart, and raise your arms so that they are parallel to the floor. Gradually start making circles with your arms outstretched. After completing 10 reps in a clock-wise direction, reverse the direction, and do 10 more reps in anti-clockwise direction.

Reps: 10-12 in each direction (Clockwise & Anti-clockwise)
